Dorcas McLaughlin, PhD, RN, TEP is board certified both as a trainer, educator, and practitioner by the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama, Sociometry, and Group Psychotherapy and as an advanced practice nurse in psychiatric mental health nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. With more than 30 years of experience as a psychodramatist and advanced practice nurse, Dorcas has worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups in private practice, hospitals, and community settings. Her areas of expertise include: trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, and relational issues.
Dr. McLaughlin's approach to psychotherapy is collaborative and interactive. She strives to provide a warm, respectful, and empathic relationship to facilitate growth and healing. Using sociometry, psychodrama and sociodrama, Dorcas assists individuals, couples, families and groups to gain action insight and practice new ways of coping with distressing situations. As an advanced practice nurse, she has a thorough understanding of the relationship between physical symptoms and psychological issues.
Dr. McLaughlin is a Professor at Webster University and teaches a variety of courses including: Psychodrama, Leadership, Interprofessional Collaboration, Communication, Family Violence and Experiential Teaching Methods. In her classes, she utilizes action methods to assist students to develop their relational and professional skills. She has written articles on use of action methods in the classroom and presented workshops on sociometry, psychodrama, and sociodrama at regional, national, and international conferences.
