Gay French-Ottaviani, LCSW-R, CP is a licensed clinical social worker with a private practice in Pound Ridge, New York (Westchester County). She has a second office in Thornwood. Gay is the Senior Domestic Violence Counselor of Community Services at Hope's Door where she provides individual and group counseling and advocacy to adult survivors of Intimate Partner Abuse. Ms. French-Ottaviani has run numerous psychodrama groups as well as other other types of therapeutic groups for adults and adolescents at Four Winds Hospital. In 2007, she was asked to don a professor's hat, and began to teach graduate counseling classes at Pace University and LIU entitled Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Abuse. As a psychodramatist, she has presented at the International Psychodrama conference in Rome, Italy as well as created and directed the first international virtual psychodrama groups. Gay is originally from San Francisco, California, where she received a BA in Drama and studied acting at the renowned ACT conservatory. After living in Europe and Los Angeles, where she worked as a professional actress, Gay finally nested in New York City and began to coach singers in performance techniques. She developed an interest in how emotional blocks affected freedom in self-expression and sought more information utilizing the power of theater techniques to undo maladaptive behaviors and fear of personal authenticity. Towards this goal, she pursued her MSW at NYU, her CP in Psychodrama and became a member of AGPA. Currently she is focused on running psychodrama groups for personal growth and professional development while continuing her work in Intimate Partner Abuse and the effects of Trauma.
