Melinda A. Lawless Coker is a licensed psychologist & licensed family therapist employed in private practice at The Transformation Project, which is a family practice with her sister (Marilisa Lawless). Historically, she received her bachelor's in Chemistry in 1985 from Florida Atlantic University (in Boca Raton, FL). Following serving four years (1985-1989) as a commissioned officer in the US Air Force, she earned her master's in Marriage & Family Therapy in 1991 from St. Thomas University in Miami, FL. Subsequently, she completed her education with a Psychology Doctorate in 2002 from Carlos Albizu University in Miami, FL. Her dissertation was a study focused on understanding the self-identities of women offenders.

As a practicing clinician for over twenty-eight years, Melinda is also a Florida Certified Addictions Professional for over 25 years. Prior to her nearly thirteen years of service to the students at FAU, she was employed for more than 15 years at various drug treatment facilities in South Florida (e.g., Broward Addiction Recovery Center, Spectrum Programs, the Watershed). In addition, she finished the rigorous TEP certification process in Psychodrama, Sociometry, & Group Psychotherapy in May 2013 after a decade of intensive training. Initially, this 10-years-long developmental "schooling" was merely curious and fun; as the years progressed, it became an instrumentally healing experience, in addition to the instructive and insightful elements that are inherent aspects to many experiential practices.
