Elizabeth Corby, Ph.D., C.P., P.A.T. of Birmingham, MI is a clinical psychologist who has over 30 years of experience in the evaluation and treatment of trauma, addiction and mental health issues. Elizabeth works with individuals, couples and families. She is also is a group leader, workshop presenter, trainer and guest speaker. She has been on faculty at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI in the Department of Behavioral Neuroscience as a practitioner, assistant professor, and researcher. She was mentored by Charles R. Schuster, Ph.D., former Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Under his tutelage, she developed and supervised a dual diagnosis treatment and research unit for the university. Elizabeth is also a certified cognitive therapist through the Beck Institute in Philadelphia, and is a Diplomate in Cognitive Therapy through the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. She has worked at substance abuse and mental health facilities while concurrently maintaining a private practice since the time that she became a psychologist. Her mentors and trainers in psychodrama include Donna Little, Barbara Guest, Ann Hale, Tian Dayton and Louise Lipman.
Areas of expertise include: Addiction & Recovery, 12 Steps & Spirituality, Relationship Issues, Co-dependency, Grief and Loss, and EMDR/Trauma-informed treatment. She also has completed Advanced Training in Psychodramatic Bodywork* developed by Susan Aaron. Elizabeth's passion is holistically integrating mind and body techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic therapy approaches with experiential techniques such as psychodrama and bodywork. She works especially well with people who are struggling with co-occurring problems (e.g., mental health and substance abuse issues) and trauma.
Elizabeth's husband is Patrick Barone, an attorney who is also a certified practitioner of and a practitioner applicant for trainer in psychodrama and is a 2012 graduate of the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyer's college. Together they founded the Michigan Psychodrama Center and offer workshops to clients, lawyers, business people, therapists, spiritual seekers and the general public.
